A New Year, A New You

Posted by Catherine Graham on Thursday, December 31, 2009 Under: Introduction
As 2009 comes to an end, I find myself looking back at the past year....what a journey it has been!  It was less than a year ago that I received my certification in life coaching, and I must confess that for the majority of the year, I knew that I wanted to coach, but I was unsure as to 'what kind' of coach I wanted to be.

When it comes to coaching, there are so many different roads you can take.... you can be a business coach, a leadership coach, a personal development coach, the list goes on and on..... and not one of them seemed to speak directly to me.  I thought I had nailed it in September when I released my second book, Power Surge.... I thought I was a Power Coach, one who helps you rediscover your own personal power so that you can live the life you want.  However, as time went on, I felt like I had 'bought the dress even though it wasn't the perfect fit'.

And so now, here I am, and I have finally figured it out (well, actually, I figured it out a few weeks ago, however, it was 2am at the time that I had my epiphany, and of course, I had to try it on for size before I decided to wear it.)

It's funny how life is always steering you in the right direction, but you don't realize it until you open your eyes and really see what it's trying to show you.  The same was true for my coaching.  I searched and searched, trying to identify with one simple concept, one 'title' that would work for me and what I wanted.

Looking back at my life, I see now that the answer had always been there all along.  You see, so many people look at a 'life coach' as somebody who has it all together....someone who is getting it perfect this time around....if they can coach others than they must be great at it.  For myself, when I looked around, I seen what was, and I thought of what I wanted to see in the future, and it appeared that there was a large gap in the 'in betweens'.  But, I was fine with that.  I was positive that I was on the right road, and really that is all that matters.

No one's life is perfect.  I get that.  I also know and understand that my own life hasn't been perfect, or handed to me on a silver platter.  When I was quite a bit younger, I used to ask why.  Now I just say thank you.

As I searched for my answer as to what kind of coach would best suit me, I realized that the best things in my life were the ones that were the hardest to get through, the ones that broke my heart, the ones that caused pain.  The biggest turns in my life were only made when I remained positive through out a situation, looking for a brighter side of things, looking for the best in each person........and all of this led me to where I am today.

So to start off my blog, I am introducing myself as the Positive Living Coach, or a PLC ~because we all need PLC~.

I may not be a financial expert, and I may not be a leader-extraordinaire.  However, I've been to the bottom, and got right back up again, time and time again..... you can too..... when you look for the lessons, look inside, and always face the sunshine so that you may never see the shadows.

Have you found your own perfect fit?

About Me

Catherine Graham Catherine Graham has been writing for much of her life, with her first attempt at a children's novel at the age of six. The book, titled, The Little Brown Rabbit Who Wanted Another Friend, was published by her first grade teacher, with copies going into the school class rooms, as well as the school's library. Thus started Catherine's early love for literature and writing. In grade seven, Catherine had her poem, The Boy, published by Iliad Press. At her grade 8 graduation she received the Writing Award. Catherine's love for writing came to a halt as she entered high school and became engrossed in all of the happenings around her. When her father passed away at the age of 16, Catherine began writing poetry again to sort through her varied emotions. On Mother's Day, in 2007, Catherine had an article published in the Kitchener Waterloo Records, a pivotol point in her career. Based on the reviews that she got for her writing, Catherine started writing her first inspirational book, Woman to Woman The Journey To Me (published March 2008) In October 2008, Catherine had a story published in Chicken Soup for the Soul, Divorce and Recovery. Catherine completed her second book, Power Surge in September 2009, and an e-book, What My Mother Taught Me in 2010. Catherine is also a Certified Coach Practitioner, Reiki Practitioner, Hot Stone Masseust, Past Life Regressionist, Relaxation Therapist and Hypnotist. She is a member of Positive Imperative, and a mother of 5.
