Eat Pray Love

August 22, 2010
It was about three years ago, when a girlfriend of mine gave me her copy of the book, Eat Pray Love to read.  "It kind of reminds me of you," she told me, as I had just walked away from a marriage to a man whom I could no longer be with.  Up until that point my girlfriend had not been able to understand my reasoning behind it.

As I read the story line, I was instantly drawn to Liz Gilbert, a writer who felt she had gotten her life wrong.  She had married, and woke up one morning praying to a God whom she had never connected with personally before, begging for help, as she felt as though she were suffocating in her relationship.  She had to find herself, find the woman she was, and the woman she intended to be.

I had instantly connected to this character, who had so many hopes and dreams for her own life, but was instantly brought down by her own guilt for the mistakes she had made in her past.  Long story short, the book fell into my hands at the right moment in time.

Last night, I was able to go and see the movie, of the same name, adapted from the book.  More often than not, I am a little leery in watching movies after reading the book, or watching the movie and then reading the book.  Some how they never seem to give themself justice.  I was not disappointed however, when it came to Eat Pray Love.  Again, I found myself drawn to Liz Gilbert, her hopes, her dreams, her disappointments.

Again, I was envious of her travels to Italy, India and Bali, although this time, I was able to realize it doesn't matter if you're eating in Italy, or your own kitchen, if you're praying in India, or your own personal quiet space, or if you're falling in love in Bali, or simply falling in love with the person that you are.

What I was able to see differently this time around, was that, while travels may be a perfect way to get away and truly connect with the person you are (or want to be), what matters most is the faith that you put into yourself that you will change, and that you will find a way.

In the past three years, I have found myself falling in love with food in ways that I never had before... enjoying it, not because I have to eat it, but for the simple pleasure of it.  I have found a groove in meditation, a spiritual place where I can go when I need a spiritual uplifting, and love for all of human kind.  I've come to realize that we can all Eat, Pray and Love every single day of the year, in every corner of the world.

Like KeTut, Liz Gilbert's medicine man pointed out to her in a hand drawn characature, it is best that we all have four feet, to keep us firmly in the ground, and our eyes in our hearts, so that we may look at the world with love.  Because really, that's what it's all about anyways, Love.

Until next time,
Live love and love life,

Wayne Dyer on Pixar?

June 21, 2010
I was very excited this month, after seeing Wayne Dyer at an I Can Do It Conference, that he would be doing 'something' for the 'short' on the new Toy Story 3 movie.  As excited as my children were to see Buzz, Woody, and all the others, I was excited to see whatever it was with Wayne Dyer in the beginning!

As a mother, I am always trying to teach my children all I can about loving themselves, loving others, promoting inner and outer peace, conscious awareness...all of it.  And some days it ca...

Inspirational or Motivational?

June 14, 2010
Last week, I was out with my children, as we helped some of their friends learn how to ride two wheelers. It was a great chance for all of us parents to get together, and for the whole idea of 'community parenting' to come into force as we tried to teach 3 six and seven year olds how to ride without training wheels. What great pride it was to see these kids fall and get back up again and keep trying, over and over again until they got it right. I'm thinking that they might know a little more ...

Bringing It All Together

March 17, 2010
Have you ever noticed that your thoughts and ideas run way ahead of you being able to bring these thoughts together?

More often than not, this happens to me!  I will have a new idea, and from that, hundred of new ideas will come to mind, and leave me wondering, how do I put this all together?

When I first started Journey Healers in 2008, I had a small vision for what I wanted to offer people.... simply, I wanted to help anyone and everyone that came my way.  When I became certified as a life ...

A Little Encouragement

January 21, 2010
I had the pleasure of watching my husband's nephew in a  wrestling tournament yesterday.  Up until this point, I had always thought wrestling was a matter of pinning the 'other guy' to the ground for a matter of seconds until you win, which it kind of is, but there's a lot more to it than just body slamming.
At one point in time during the matches, I paused to watch the coaches, as they instructed their students in each match.  What surprised me was the difference between the coaching...

A Lesson In Fear

January 12, 2010
I've started going to church this year.  Being the beginning of the year, I have only gone twice, as there's only been two services for me to go to.  However, this in itself has been quite a feat for me.

You see, when I was a young child, I was sent very mixed messages about church, and religion.  While my parents didn't force me to go, I was still given some pretty big misconceptions about the ideas of faith and God, and religion in general.

As I got into my teens, I started searching for a...

Staying Positive (In A Negative World)

January 3, 2010

Did you know that on average, in only two hours daily media (t.v, radio and internet) sends out over 10, 000 negative messages to you?  Pretty scary, huh?

For each of the negative messages that you receive you need to hear or see 2 positive messages in order to cancel out the negatives.

So what can you do?  Turn off the radio, the internet and t.v, vowing never to tune in again?  With the world advancing quickly in technology, that's not really an option, however you do have a choice as to wha...

"Precious"

January 1, 2010
When I read about the upcoming movie "Precious" in an Oprah magazine, I was drawn to the story line, however, it wasn't until I watched the movie, that I became such an advocate for the story, and most of all, Precious, the main character.

Precious, is an overweight, African teenager.  When she is found pregnant for the second time, by her father's baby, her school kicks her out, and she is left to go to a 'special school' that deals with teenagers that deal with adversity.  As Precious goes ...

"While My Sister Sleeps"

January 1, 2010
Every once in awhile, you happen to pick up a book to read, that changes the way you feel about your own situation, that you identify with, and that leaves you filled with a new sense of hope.

I recently had such an experience, with While My Sister Sleeps, by Barbara Delinsky.  This fictional story, hooks you on the first page, as you encounter Molly, the youngest of three children, who often feels like the black sheep in her family.  Her sister Robin, is a professional athlete, who seems to...

About Me

Catherine Graham Catherine Graham has been writing for much of her life, with her first attempt at a children's novel at the age of six. The book, titled, The Little Brown Rabbit Who Wanted Another Friend, was published by her first grade teacher, with copies going into the school class rooms, as well as the school's library. Thus started Catherine's early love for literature and writing. In grade seven, Catherine had her poem, The Boy, published by Iliad Press. At her grade 8 graduation she received the Writing Award. Catherine's love for writing came to a halt as she entered high school and became engrossed in all of the happenings around her. When her father passed away at the age of 16, Catherine began writing poetry again to sort through her varied emotions. On Mother's Day, in 2007, Catherine had an article published in the Kitchener Waterloo Records, a pivotol point in her career. Based on the reviews that she got for her writing, Catherine started writing her first inspirational book, Woman to Woman The Journey To Me (published March 2008) In October 2008, Catherine had a story published in Chicken Soup for the Soul, Divorce and Recovery. Catherine completed her second book, Power Surge in September 2009, and an e-book, What My Mother Taught Me in 2010. Catherine is also a Certified Coach Practitioner, Reiki Practitioner, Hot Stone Masseust, Past Life Regressionist, Relaxation Therapist and Hypnotist. She is a member of Positive Imperative, and a mother of 5.
